JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's soccer team dropped its second A-Sun Conference game of the season to Jacksonville, 3-0, on Friday evening. The Eagles fall to 5-6-1 (1-2-1 A-Sun) while the Dolphins improve to 6-4-1 (4-1-0 A-Sun).
“Jacksonville is a good team,” said Head Coach Bob Butehorn. “They outplayed us tonight.”
The Dolphins, who came into the game tied for first place in the A-Sun, got on the board first in the 20th minute of the game when Nedim Hrustic scored a goal when he turned a FGCU defender and fired a shot past Adam Glick (Leola, Pa.) and into the bottom left corner of the goal.
The first period ended with Jacksonville taking a slight 1-0 edge going into halftime. FGCU was outshot 8-3 and lost the corner kick battle 4-0 in the first half.
In the second half, Jacksonville would add to their lead as Anton Axelsson scored a pair of goals in the 56th and 73rd minutes. Axelsson now leads the A-Sun with eight goals this season.
