Naples, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's soccer team dropped its second consecutive game of the season, losing to Navy by the score of 4-0 on Friday night. The Eagles fall to 3-3-0 while the Mids improve to 3-1-1.
Navy quickly took the lead on Doug DeVuono’s goal in the 2nd minute of the game. The Mids would eventually take a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
The Mids would pad their lead in the second half. Navy scored three goals in the second period including goals from Adam Pennington (52nd minute) and a pair of goals from DeVuono (71st and 79th minute).
Matt Piccoli (Selden, N.Y.) led the Eagles with one shot on goal. Piccoli also tied with fellow freshman, Collin Gill (Plant City, Fla.), for the team lead in shots (2).
Adam Glick (Leola, Pa.) started the game between the pipes and recorded two saves but the freshman also allowed four goals was charged with the loss.
The Eagles were outshot 9-7 and lost the corner kick battle 6-1.
FGCU will be back in action on Sunday afternoon to host the second game of the Embassy Suites Kick-Off Classic against Illinois-Chicago at 1 pm.
