DUNK CITY, Fla. – Friday night’s FGCU men’s basketball game against Mercer is sold out to the general public, with only a limited amount of student tickets remaining. The battle for first place in the Atlantic Sun Conference between FGCU (11-3) and Mercer (12-2) will be shown nationally on ESPNU, and because of that the game will start at 6 p.m.
As of Monday morning, less than 800 student tickets from an allotment of 1,500 remain. Students must claim their ticket by showing their ID at the Alico Arena Ticket Office before 5 p.m. on Thursday. All unclaimed tickets at that time will be made available to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, there is already a waiting list for potentially unclaimed tickets. To be added to the waiting list, or to address any other ticketing questions, please visit the Alico Arena Ticket Office or call 239-590-7145.
FGCU (17-10 overall) is coming off a pivotal 84-80 win at USC Upstate Saturday. The triumph over the Spartans was crucial for the Eagles in terms of tie-breaking scenarios as FGCU is now a perfect 2-0 against UNF (8-6) and Upstate (8-6), two of the three teams vying for third place. ETSU (9-6) is the other, and FGCU is 1-1 against the Bucs this year. Meanwhile, Mercer is 1-1 against both USC Upstate and UNF, giving the Eagles a tiebreaking advantage with a victory Friday over Mercer (21-6 overall).
If FGCU and Mercer were to finish the regular season tied and the two teams split their season series (FGCU lost the first meeting in Macon last month), the first tiebreaker will be each team’s record against the third-place team. The top overall seed will earn home-court advantage throughout the A-Sun Championship, which takes place March 4-9 at campus sites.
Following the contest with Mercer, FGCU will take on Kennesaw State (2-12) in its final home game of the regular season on Sunday, Feb. 23, at 1:30 p.m. The outing will serve as Senior Day for the Eagles. Next weekend, FGCU concludes the regular season at Lipscomb (7-8) and Northern Kentucky (4-11).
