FORT MYERS, Fla. – The nation will get a chance to see the Atlantic Sun champion FGCU men’s basketball team react when its first-ever NCAA Tournament opponent and destination is unveiled on Sunday, as CBS will give a live look-in during the team’s Selection Show Party held at Alico Arena.
To kick-off the day’s festivities, The Dirty Birds (Student Fan Group) will host a pre-party with music outside of Alico Arena starting at 4:30 p.m. Doors into Alico Arena will open at 5:00 p.m. and the Selection Show will be broadcast live on CBS at 6 p.m. The team will be introduced at 5:30 p.m. and head coach Andy Enfield and some of the Green and Blue squad will address the fans.
Playing in its second straight A-Sun championship game in just its second year of Division I postseason eligibility, FGCU was the first team in this year’s NCAA Tournament field of 68 to clinch a berth thanks to the A-Sun’s automatic bid last Saturday. FGCU put together three straight double figure wins at the A-Sun Tournament as the No. 2 seed, culminating with the win over No. 1 seed and tournament host Mercer in the championship seen on ESPN2.
The Eagles will enter the NCAA Tournament with wins in 12 of their last 14 games and with a 24-10 record. Playing under Enfield’s up-tempo offense, FGCU has scored 70+ points in 23 games and is 7-0 when scoring 80 points. At least three Eagles have reached double figures in 27 of the last 29 games, highlighted by five in six contests (6-0).
All second round games of the 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship are scheduled to be played Thursday-Friday, March 21-22, with third round games held at the same locations on Saturday-Sunday, March 23-24.
