Men’s Basketball Adds Small Forward Logan Hovey During Early Signing Period

FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU men’s basketball coach Andy Enfield announced the second member of its 2013-14 class on Tuesday, signing Logan Hovey (Orlando, Fla./Paul J. Hagerty HS) to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) in the early signing period.

Hovey, a highly-skilled 6-foot-6 small forward, is a rising senior at Paul J. Hagerty High School where he led the Huskies to a 26-8 record and a trip to the Florida Class 8A Championship game last season. Hovey joins 6-foot-7 forward Jordan Neff (Kennesaw, Ga./North Cobb HS) to make up FGCU’s two-member class to this point.

“Logan has a very versatile skill set and can play multiple positions at the collegiate level,” coach Enfield said. “His high basketball IQ, passing, and scoring abilities will enable him to contribute to our team immediately. Logan has been well coached and will walk in the door college ready. ”

Hovey averaged 14.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game en route to the Florida Class 8A Championship appearance as a junior in 2011-12. He posted nine points and nine rebounds in the championship game and reached double figures in Hagerty’s win over perennial powerhouse and nationally-renown Montverde Academy.

Hovey has also garnered several notable rankings with multiple media outlets. He was tabbed as a Top-10 Player to Watch and the No. 5 wing forward by in the state of Florida. listed him as the 97th-best small forward in the nation, and he was ranked at the 39th-best player in the state of Florida by

“I am very excited to play for coach Enfield and to be a part of the basketball program that he has quickly built at FGCU,” Hovey said. “I really liked the campus and facilities at FGCU and felt that it was a perfect fit for me.”

FGCU is off to a 2-2 start in its second season under Enfield, taking on one of the most difficult schedules in the country. The Eagles defeated ACC foe Miami in front of a sellout Alico Arena crowd of 4,552 fans last Tuesday and have already gone on the road to No. 9 Duke and VCU, giving them three opponents that have at least received votes in the Top 25.
