FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s basketball team took a major step towards addressing its depth for the 2009-10 season as forward Charlie Lytle of Clearwater, Florida will join the Eagles in the Fall.
"We are really excited to have Charlie be a part of our program,” FGCU head coach Dave Balza said.” Without question, he fits our style of play. He’s a high energy player who likes to work hard, and we think we will make a big contribution this coming season.”
The 6-8 forward comes to FGCU after spending his sophomore season at Santa Fe College. At Santa Fe College, Lytle averaged 7.3 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game, recorded 212 total points, 190 rebounds, 44 blocks, 51 assist, 27 steals, and earned Second Team All Mid-Florida Conference honors.
Prior to Santa Fe, Lytle played his freshman season at Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee. At Bryan, Lytle averaged 14.5 points per game, and averaged 10 boards per game.
Lytle was a four year letterman on the varsity basketball team at Largo High School in Largo, Florida. He earned All-Pinellas and All-Sun Coast First Team honors his senior year, averaging 18 points and 11 rebounds per game. In his junior year, he helped lead his team to a number one ranking in the state of Florida Class 5A.
