FORT MYERS, Fla. - Dave Balza has announced the signing of another student-athlete to the FGCU men’s basketball program. Ben Vega has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Eagles next season and becomes the third player to sign with FGCU this off-season as he joins incoming junior college transfers Derrick O'Neil and George Erkvania.
“We are very excited about our recruiting class,” said head coach Dave Balza. “Coach Denny Hinson did a great job of identifying quality young men that are high-level players. This group will represent FGCU well and help elevate us to new heights in Division 1.”
Ben Vega is a 5-10 guard from Gulf Coast Community College. The sophomore is originally from Waukegan, Ill., and averaged 9.8 points per game while dishing out a team-high 95 assists and picking up 48 steals for Gulf Coast last season.
“Ben is a terrific addition to our program,” Balza said. “He is a leader on the floor and will be a steadying influence for a young team. His court vision and understanding of the game will be invaluable for us.”
