Senior Adam Lidell scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Eagles.
FORT MYERS, FLA. - Four Eagles scored in double figures to lead FCGU in a 98-77 exhibition victory on Saturday night against St. Thomas at Alico Arena.
FGCU was led by seniors Casey Wohlleb (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Adam Liddell (Auburn, Ind.). Wholleb led the Eagles in scoring with 23 points on 7-of-9 (77.8-percent) shooting from the field and 3-of-4 (75.0-percent) from behind the arc. Liddell added 16 points, pulled down nine rebounds and dished out five assists.
Landon Adler (Decatur, Ind) and Tyler Rodriguez (Colleyville, Texas) added 13 points and 16 points, respectively. Adler recorded a double-double by adding a game-high 15 rebounds. Rodriguez went 7-of-9 from the field and added five rebounds for the Eagles.
The taller and more physical Eagles outmuscled the Bobcats around the rim, out rebounding St. Thomas 50-26 and winning the points in the paint battle 50-28. FGCU also recorded more assists (23) than St. Thomas (9).
The Eagles defense was key in the game, as FGCU held St. Thomas to only 21-of-57 (36.8-percent) shooting from the field and forced the Bobcats into 20 turnovers in the game.
The Eagles outscored St. Thomas’ reserves 50-23. FGCU’s reserves shot 20-of-36 (55.6-percent) from the floor and 2-of-6 (33.3-percent) from behind the arc.
Antonio Jones led the Bobcats in scoring with 23 points on 3-of-10 (30.0-percent) shooting for the game and 15-of-17 (88.2-percent) from the charity stripe. Alex Damiron added 13 points and four rebounds in the loss.
The Eagles will officially open their 2007-08 campaign on Nov. 12 when head to Daytona Beach, Fla. to meet Bethune-Cookman. Tip-off for the contest is set for 7 p.m.
