MACON, Ga. – Following the team’s third straight unbeaten conference weekend, FGCU senior Sherwood Brown (Orlando, Fla./Olympia HS) and redshirt sophomore Eric McKnight (Raleigh, N.C./Princeton Day Academy/Iowa State) took home both of the Atlantic Sun’s weekly honors on Tuesday. Brown claimed his third A-Sun Player of the Week award this season, while McKnight was named the Newcomer of the Week for the third time.

Brown and McKnight winning both accolades marked the second time this year that FGCU has swept the league’s weekly awards. On Nov. 20, sophomore Bernard Thompson (Conyers, Ga./Rockdale County HS) and McKnight gave the Green and Blue their first sweep.

The only player to win A-Sun Player of the Week more than once this season, Brown accomplished another FGCU first during last Thursday’s win over ETSU becoming the first to accumulate 1,000 career points and 500 rebounds. The Orlando, Fla. product finished with 17 points, five rebounds, three steals and a career-high three blocks against the Bucs.

Two nights later, Brown poured in his fifth 20-point game in the last seven outings in a 74-49 win over USC Upstate that could be seen nationally on ESPN3. Brown’s recent run has lifted him to fourth in the A-Sun scoring race at 16.0 points per game, while he leads the league in scoring (18.1) in conference only contests.

McKnight’s week started with an impressive 13-point and six-rebound performance against ETSU, setting a season-high for points in a conference games. He finished the week averaging 10.0 points and six rebounds, hitting 8-of-10 from the field.

A native of Raleigh, N.C., McKnight is part of a starting five that has made 23 starts together this year. McKnight is fifth on the club in scoring at 7.3 points per game to go along with 4.7 rebounds. He is second in the A-Sun in both total blocks (36) and blocks per (1.4). Over 13 A-Sun games, McKnight is shooting a gaudy 70 percent (35-50) from the field.

Currently in sole possession of first place in the A-Sun at 10-3 and riding a program D1 record six-game win streak, FGCU (18-8) will hit the road for the next three contests, beginning with their first-ever trip to Northern Kentucky on Thursday, Feb. 14. Game time at the Bank of Kentucky Center is slated for 7 p.m.
