FORT MYERS, Fla. – After helping FGCU extend its program Division I record win streak to six games and keep sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Sun standings, senior Sherwood Brown (Orlando, Fla./Olympia HS) has been named the College Sports Madness A-Sun Player of the Week, announced by the media outlet on Monday.

Brown is having a career year in his final campaign in the Green and Blue, and has been named the College Sports Madness A-Sun Player of the Week four times this season.

College Sports Madness identifies the highest impact players nationally and one from each conference in their weekly feature. The site’s coverage also includes a Top 25 ranking, tournament bracketology and team pages for each conference and school.

After becoming the first player to record four straight double-doubles earlier in the A-Sun season, Brown accomplished another FGCU first during last Thursday’s win over ETSU becoming the first to accumulate 1,000 career points and 500 rebounds. The Orlando, Fla. product finished with 17 points, five rebounds, three steals and a career-high three blocks against the Bucs.

Two nights later, Brown poured in his fifth 20-point game in the last seven outings in a 74-49 win over USC Upstate that could be seen nationally on ESPN3. Brown’s recent run has lifted him to fourth in the A-Sun scoring race at 16.0 points per game, while he leads the league in scoring (18.1) in conference only contests.

Brown and the rest of the Eagles (18-8, 10-3) will the road for the next three contests, beginning with their first-ever trip to Northern Kentucky on Thursday, Feb. 14. Game time at the Bank of Kentucky Center is slated for 7 p.m.
