FORT MYERS, Fla. – Coming off an appearance in the 2012 Atlantic Sun Tournament championship game in the program’s first year of Division I postseason eligibility, the FGCU men’s basketball team will get a head start on building off its first season under head coach Andy Enfield when it takes a foreign tour to the Bahamas from August 8-12.

The Eagles will play three games against professional teams from the Bahamas during the trip. FGCU begin its three games in three days schedule against the Commonwealth Bank Giants on Wednesday, August 8 at 9 p.m. ET.

FGCU, who returns all five starters off last year’s squad that won a program Division I record 15 games (15-17), will take on the Mailbot Cybots on August 9, at 7 p.m. and will conclude the three-game swing against the Grand Bahamas All-Starts on Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. All three games will be played at Kendal Issacs Gymnasium in Nassau, a 2,500-seat arena in the Queen Elizabeth Sports Center.

Due to taking the foreign tour, which is only allowed once every four years, FGCU will to hold team practices for 10 days leading up to the trip. The Eagles will begin a string of eight practices in nine days on Monday, July 30, when they take the Alico Arena floor from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

“This is a great experience for our players on so many levels, especially our seniors who have put have put in a lot of hard work during their time at FGCU,” said Enfield. “The games will be a great test for our young players because they’ll be up against guys that will be physically stronger and very skilled. We’re looking forward to spending time together as a team on and off the court.”

FGCU returns 85 percent of its scoring, 84 percent of its rebounding and 92 percent of its assists from the 2011-12 squad that won a program Division I record 15 games and advanced to the A-Sun championship as the No. 6 seed by defeating No. 3 seed USC Upstate and No. 2 seed and host Mercer.
