Pair of FGCU A-Sun Contests Selected as CSS Friday Night Game of the Week
Thursday, September 15, 2011

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Both of the FGCU men’s basketball team’s contests against in-state Atlantic Sun rival Stetson will appear on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS), as the nine-game regular season schedule and postseason tournament television dates were announced on Thursday.

The 2011-12 season marks the 10th straight year of the partnership between the Atlantic Sun Conference and CSS, highlighted by the return of the A-Sun/CSS Friday Night Game of the Week. The A-Sun Friday Night Game of the Week is also aired on ESPN Full Court and ESPN3.com. CSS can be found on channel 70 for Comcast subscribers in Southwest Florida.

“We are pleased to extend our partnership with the Atlantic Sun for the 10th year during the 2011-12 basketball season,” said CSS Vice President and General Manager Mark Fuhrman. “We take pride offering our viewers exceptional coverage of sports in the southeast and the Atlantic Sun lineup is a key component to our basketball schedule.”

The first of the two televised games in the regular season series will take place on Friday, Jan. 20 at the Edmunds Center on the campus of Stetson. The final game of the series will land at Alico Arena on Friday, Feb. 17, where FGCU is 3-1 all-time against the Hatters. Both games are set for 7 p.m.

FGCU took both games from the Hatters last season to even the all-time series at 4-4. Out of the eight meetings between the two teams, seven have been decided by 10 points or less. Last year’s contest in DeLand, Fla. proved to be the longest in FGCU’s history and one of 10 triple-overtime games in A-Sun history, as the Eagles out-lasted the Hatters 111-103 after 55 minutes of play.

Both program’s ushered in new head coaches during the offseason, adding intrigue to the thriving rivalry. FGCU introduced Andy Enfield as its second-ever head coach on March 31, after a five-year stint as an assistant coach at Florida State. Stetson stayed in the A-Sun to find its 20th head coach in the 103-year history of the program, hiring Belmont assistant Casey Alexander, who served 16 seasons under coach Rick Byrd.

Postseason coverage will continue with the broadcasting of the General Shale Brick A-Sun Basketball Championship semifinals on Friday, March 2. CSS will also carry the women’s basketball title game at noon on March 3.

FGCU season tickets can be purchased in person at the Alico Arena ticket office or by phone at 239-590-7145. The FGCU ticket office is open from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. from Monday through Friday.

Combined season tickets for both the men’s and women’s teams are also available again for a combined 50 percent discount. Season tickets for either the men’s and women’s program range from $84-$259. A combined season ticket (both teams) ranges from $126-$389.
