FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sherwood Brown, a 6’3 guard from Olympia High School in Orlando, Florida, became the newest member of the FGCU men's basketball program, head coach Dave Balza announced.

“Sherwood epitomizes what we look for in an FGCU basketball player. He is an A-student from a good family. He is a hard working athlete that comes from a winning program and knows how to defend. He is a great late addition for us and could make a significant contribution.”

Brown graduated summa cum laude from Olympia High School, averaged 11.4 points, 1.2 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals during his senior year. Against American Heritage on Dec. 23, 2008, he scored a season-high 22 points as he led Olympia to an 89-87 victory. Last season he helped lead the Titans to the 2009 FHSAA Class 6A State Championship game.

Brown joins Brett Williams, Hunter Miller and Charlie Lytle as newcomers. Williams, an Oviedo, Fla. native, joined the FGCU men’s basketball program after playing his high school career at Hagerty High School. Williams scored nearly 2,000 points, and earned Class 3A District 8 player of the year honors. Miller, a Nashville, Tenn. native was a four year starter at the Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, where he led the state of Tennessee in three pointers with 102, also establishing the single season record for CPA. Lytle, a Clearwater, Fla. native, joined the men’s basketball program after playing one season at Santa Fe College. While at Santa Fe College, Lytle averaged 7.3 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game, recorded 212 total points, 190 rebounds, 44 blocks, 51 assist, 27 steals and earned Second Team All Mid-Florida Conference honors.
