Baseball Takes Series With 5-3 Win at Stetson [Back]

DeLAND, Fla., FGCU took game three to win a series at Stetson behind a dominant pitching performance by sophomore Pete Woodworth (St. Petersburg, Fla.). The Eagles improve to 31-13 and 21-6 in the conference while Stetson falls to 20-30 and 10-17 in the league.

The Hatters put single runs on the board in the second and third innings. Jason Peacock (Bartow, Fla.) put the Eagles on the board in the top of the fourth with his eighth homer of the year. Ozzie Borrell (Hialeah, Fla.) followed with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mikel Alvarez (West Palm Beach, Fla.) to even the score. The Eagles opened up a lead in the seventh inning when Josh Upchurch (Cape Coral, Fla.) led off with a single. Casey Coleman (Cape Coral, Fla.) singled to bring in Upchurch and a double by Alvarez scored Peacock and Coleman to put the Eagles up 5-2.

FGCU starter Pete Woodworth (St. Petersburg, Fla.) was dominant after the third inning, as he retired 13 of the next 15 batters he faced and struck out seven batters with just one walk. He improved to 6-2 on the year after going 8.0 innings and allowing just seven hits.

Alvarez was 3-4 on the afternoon with three RBI while Peacock was 2-4 with his team-leading 8th homer.

The Eagles will be back in action again on Tuesday when they host Florida International.
